The reading mechanics takes care of reading the optical support and transmitting the data to the digital-analogue conversion section (the DAC integrated in the reader itself). The reading, however, occurs irregularly and this leads to decoding errors and consequent data retransmissions.
This phenomenon is called Jitter (which we could define as a time lag between the transmitted signal and the received one) and is at the origin of a superposition of musical information at high frequencies that cause the scene to be crushed and the sound to harden (which becomes more aggressive and annoying, not very fluid).
Since not all listeners are equally sensitive to this phenomenon, its resolution has been reserved only for those CD players with a higher price range, where a higher quality audio converter is used, with devices suitable for containing and eliminating negative Jitter phenomena.
The downside is the cost of these CD players, which often exceed $2,000.
This situation, however, has generated a new niche in the HiFi market and is precisely that represented by external audio converters.
Initially produced only by the more renowned HiFi brands, these new and expensive devices (called DAC, an acronym for “Digital-to-Analog-Converter”) are beginning to spread among the most demanding audiophiles.
Once connected to the optical or coaxial digital output of any CD player, the digital analogue converter takes care of the audio processing in a more accurate and precise way, correctly synchronizing the digital flow of the input data and converting it into higher quality analog audio.
